Claire*(10), started Year 6.

(October 2020 - Present)

Background

I was contacted by Claire's parents as they wanted some support for their child in Maths and to feel more confident with SATs style questions.

How we worked together

I quickly identified that Claire's main barrier was herself. She apologised for everything when she really had no need.

I created games that included previous SAT questions to identify what needed to be worked on. This created engaging activities which still covered what would have been needed had the children had SATs this year.

Once SATs had been postponed, we focused on what she was finding tricky and linking them to assessment style questions to build her confidence with them. It was clear that processing the information given was difficult for Claire. She has worked so hard and completes any task given to her throughout the week.

The Outcome

We are reaching the end of Claire's Primary education and she is a totally different girl. She has learnt the art to give herself a moment to think, look at the calculation again and complete it. She has also stopped saying sorry!

When I spoke to the families about these Success Stories, I was lucky enough to have Claire's point of view given to me.

"I really like working with Louise and I love Maths now, where before I didn't, and I am finding it much easier.

I find it easier because because my confidence is much better and I am more patient and think carefully about the question."

I cannot wait to hear about her triumphs when she moves up to Secondary School.
